Maximising economic benefits for WA

While Westport develops the business case for the new Kwinana container port and logistics network, the WA Government is supporting other strategic projects that will help shape a greater plan for the State.

Future of Fremantle

Building a new port in Kwinana opens a range of opportunities for the future of Fremantle’s economy, particularly when it comes to Fremantle’s North Quay.

The Future of Fremantle Planning Committee, a subcommittee of the WA Planning Commission, will develop a vision for the longer-term redevelopment of Fremantle Port’s Inner Harbour and the Victoria Quay Waterfront Precinct.

The Committee will comprise representatives from State Government agencies, Fremantle Ports, local businesses, industry, local government, and the Fremantle community.

Western Trade Coast

In March 2021, Premier Mark McGowan committed to establishing a global strategic industrial hub to support high-tech manufacturing within the Western Trade Coast.

The Western Trade Coast is WA’s premier industrial area, consisting of four key areas including the Kwinana Industrial Area, Rockingham Industry Zone, the Australian Marine Complex in Henderson and Latitude 32.

This initiative will support key strategic Government priorities and industry development in battery and critical minerals, renewable hydrogen, defence, LNG and other advanced manufacturing industries. To deliver this commitment, the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation will lead an economic development framework.
