The Port precinct refers to areas of land that will support the new port facilities in the Kwinana Industrial Area, and includes the future road and rail connections.
The new port precinct will be located between the end of Barter Road and the end of Mason Road.
It will include:
- Land reclamation within the Kwinana Industrial Area for the new port terminal facilities, with reclamation materials to come from dredging for the new shipping channel.
- Capacity to support Western Australia’s container trade needs for another 100 years, with room for more berths when needed.
- An elevated terminal to account for future rising sea levels.
- Flexibility and the ability to adopt new technologies as they emerge.
- Integration with the redeveloped Kwinana Bulk Terminal.
- Upgrades to the road and rail infrastructure in and around the Kwinana Industrial Area, including upgrades to Anketell Road and a long-term plan to create a strategic east-west freight link between Kwinana and Tonkin Highway in Oakford.

Construction planning
Westport is currently undertaking detailed design of the new port terminal and marine infrastructure. This includes plans for other sites required to support the port terminal when operational, like container storage areas and truck marshalling, and regulatory processes like quarantine and border force.
The redevelopment of the Kwinana Bulk Terminal (KBT) and upgrades to Anketell Road will likely be the first infrastructure projects to start construction, with an expected build timeframe of around 10 years.
Industry will have ongoing access to the existing Kwinana Outer Harbour berths during construction of the new port facilities.
It is expected the new container port terminal will welcome one container ship per day on average.
