It will take more than a decade to develop WA’s new container port and supply chain in Kwinana. Here are the works that are currently underway.
Westport will be one of the biggest infrastructure projects WA has ever undertaken.
Developing critical infrastructure like a new container port takes time, with the full development of the port expected to take around a decade.
Marine investigations
Westport is collecting data about the seabed and sub-seabed to inform detailed design and planning for the new port and channel.
Project development process
The project development will happen in stages.
For example:
- Upgrades to Anketell Road and the Kwinana Bulk Terminal will happen earlier in the process to support port construction.
- Dredging and major marine infrastructure work will not begin before the State and Federal environmental impact assessment processes are complete.
This page provides an overview of the current works underway as part of Westport.
