The new container port planned for Kwinana will remove access to the Naval Base horse beach.
The new port will be strategically positioned between Barter Road and Mason Road within the Kwinana Industrial Area. This location encompasses the Naval Base beach, accessed via Riseley Road, referred to as the "horse beach" by the local equine community.
Public access to the beach will eventually close, with port development activities likely to begin in the late 2020s.
Whilst not a dedicated or official horse beach, Westport understands the significance of this location to the horse-riding community and is working to support long-term equine activities in the region.
Community consultation
Consultation with the Perth equine community began in 2023 when the preferred location for the new port was determined:
