Westport Community Update

We know there's lots of questions about Westport, so our team will be in the community to speak with you at a range of events over the coming weeks. This includes the Perth Boat Show which kicks off today along with upcoming local markets. In this edition, we dig into some of the questions we've received about the future of the cruise terminal in Fremantle and the proposed road upgrades being progressed as part of Westport.

Speak with us at the Perth Boat Show

Westport will be at the 2024 Club Marine Perth Boat Show this weekend to answer questions from the Perth boating community about the project.

We have a marquee in the government hub in area 207 and our team will be available to chat all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Perth Boat Show:

  • Perth Exhibition Centre
  • 8, 9, 10 September – 9.30am to 5pm

How are we managing the marine environment?

We've committed to plan, build and operate the most sustainable port in Australia, which means supporting the long-term health and recovery of Cockburn Sound, benefitting the many West Australians who use it.

Here's a short video explaining our approach to the marine environment, including investment into independent science.

"We want to understand ways to build the resilience of Cockburn Sound before we start, and then increase environmental habitat and seagrass meadows after we finish, so that ultimately, we end up with a net nature positive port."

 - Patrick Seares, Westport Managing Director

Community question: Will the cruise terminal remain in Fremantle?

Yes, Fremantle Port will remain operational, welcoming cruise ships, leisure craft and visiting military ships.

Westport is planning for the move of container trade to Kwinana with the Department of Transport investigating alternative locations for Roll-on, Roll-off, breakbulk and livestock.

For more information, check out our latest community webinar, where we discuss frequently asked about timing, ownership, the future of Fremantle Inner Harbour, and fishing in Cockburn Sound.

Community events

This month we have had conversations with people at our community pop-up events in Rockingham and Coogee.

The road upgrades proposed under Westport have been a topic of interest lately, so we've updated our Road Network webpage to provide information on how these upgrades are being progressed and what each stage of the development will look like.
