Recreational users of Cockburn Sound survey image

Westport calling for recreational users of Cockburn Sound to complete survey

We are interested to hear from anyone who visits Cockburn Sound for recreational activities like walking, swimming, boating, or even taking your horse to the beach.

The survey is being delivered by the Western Australian Marine Science Institution and Westport. Outcomes will help improve our understanding of how Cockburn Sound is used and valued by the community.

It forms part of Theme 6 ‘Social Values’, one of the 9 themes under the WAMSI Westport Marine Science Program. The ‘Social Values’ theme will help Westport identify and understand the community values connected to Cockburn Sound.

In 2021, Westport formed a $13.5 million research partnership with WAMSI to help fill important knowledge gaps about Cockburn Sound’s ecosystem.

To learn more visit WAMSI's website or complete the survey here.

Information for recreational fishers

We know that Cockburn Sound is an import place to recreational fishers across the State. With this in mind, Westport and the WA Marine Science Institution have created an entire project focused on recreational fishing.

This project will include interviews and surveys to helps us understand why recreational fishers value Cockburn Sound and identify future opportunities for both Westport and recreational fishers. To learn more visit WAMSI's website or view this fact sheet.
