Westport has launched the Westport Innovation Hub, a dedicated online channel inviting industry, researchers, start-ups and technology providers to submit ideas that could help shape Western Australia’s future container port and associated supply chain.
Westport is designing WA’s future container port at a time of rapid change in global trade, technology and supply chains. Innovation is embedded in how the program is planned and delivered so the port can adapt as markets, technologies and operating models evolve.
“We are inviting submissions from across industry, research and the broader innovation ecosystem, including new technologies, approaches and ways of working that can improve efficiency, sustainability and resilience across the future port system,” Westport Managing Director Patrick Seares said.
“Our focus is on assessing and applying innovation in a considered and responsible way – carefully managing risk while prioritising ideas that align with our goals and current priorities.
“The scale of the Westport program means we have a unique opportunity to enable and accelerate innovation – bringing together expertise from across the market to support the successful delivery of this once-in-a-century project.”
The Innovation Hub will help Westport capture and share external ideas while ensuring proposals are assessed following a clear, consistent quality assurance process. Westport’s role is not to be the innovator, but to enable innovation by others – leveraging the expertise and capability of partners across design, advisory, construction, operations and the broader market.
How submissions are reviewed
Ideas submitted through the Hub are reviewed monthly by Westport’s Innovation team alongside subject matter experts. Submitters will be advised if their idea progresses to further assessment, if more information is needed, or if it is not the right fit for current priorities. Submissions may also be retained for future consideration as priorities evolve.
Important information for submitters
The Innovation Hub is not a procurement process and does not guarantee any commercial engagement. Westport does not provide funding or financial reward for idea submissions. Submitters are encouraged not to include commercially sensitive or confidential information at the initial stage. Westport receives many submissions, and not all ideas will progress beyond initial assessment.
